As the new year begins with "verse memorisation", teach your quizzer to memorize the reference as the first words of the verse.
Have them quote it out loud as they review the verses learned each day. For the quizzer, this will eliminate the painful task of having to attach the reference to the words of the verse memorized.
The reference in junior quizzing is a critical part of question answering, thus having the reference memorized as part of the verse will bring the body of the verse to their minds quicker.
